Spaulding HS may be the story of the season following their solid Week 1 performance. The NH Football Report has named them the team of the week for the first week of football action.
Coming off an 0-9 2021 season, Spaulding opened 2022 with a 36-13 triumph over Alvirne on Friday night in Rochester.
The Red Raiders never trailed in the contest. Spaulding led 8-0 after one quarter, 14-7 at halftime and 22-13 after three before outscoring the Broncos 14-0 in the final 12 minutes. Perhaps most encouraging was the fact that the Red Raiders answered each Alvirne touchdown with a TD of their own on the ensuing possession.
Running back Hunter Trueman rushed for 146 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries, and running back Emmett Colby added 126 yards and two TDs on 18 carries.
Cal Azzopardi and Seth Cortina scored Spaulding’s other TDs.
The 36 points the Red Raiders scored were three more than they scored in nine games last season, when they failed to score more than 12 points in a game.
